Flier's History
Flier’s Underground Sprinkler Systems, Inc. was established in 1964 by Bernard Flier. Bern began the business as a sideline from his home in Grand Rapids. Along with his two brothers, Jason and Gerrit,
The business continued to grow, and in 1968 Flier’s purchased the property at 4416-4418 S. Division from the Division Avenue Bus Line. In 1976, Flier’s opened its do-it-yourself Retail Store to sell irrigation supplies directly to the public. In 1978, the company began a highly successful venture by installing systems with customers who wanted to do some of the work themselves. These “do-it-yourself” installations are still a large part of Flier’s business.
Flier’s has expanded since its conception into almost every conceivable water-related business. Although underground sprinkling is still a main product for Flier’s, they also sell and service well supplies, pumps, fountains, water-gardening supplies and a complete assortment of parts for the do-it-yourself customer.
In 1991, Flier’s Quality Water Systems was born as a department of Flier’s Underground Sprinkling. What began as just one of several departments in a growing business has grown into an entity of its own. In 1997, Flier’s Quality Water Systems was incorporated as a separate corporation from Flier’s Underground Sprinkling. Flier’s Quality Water handles bottled water, water softeners and water purification systems of all kinds. Flier’s Quality Water specializes in customized water treatment and water purification systems for a wide variety of manufacturing needs.
